Bangs Garcia will have her first leading role in a movie via the sexy drama Lauriana.
Bangs plays the title role of Lauriana, who falls in love with a Philippine Constabulary captain (played by Allen Dizon), not knowing that she’ll get the short end of the stick (the guy beats her up and locks the door behind her).
Doing this movie means Bangs is over-stepping her own limit but she has good reasons why she agreed to do it. One, she plays the title role. Second, the indie film is not run-of-the-mill. This film is the entry of Mel Chionglo for the Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival All Masters Edition organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). The said film fest is scheduled to take place from September 7-16, 2013.
Third, the film is not just about disrobing. It is based on a true story that happened to a woman living in the town of Padre Burgos, Lucena City, Quezon province. She was abused by her husband during the 1950s. The film explores issues such as marital rape and physical violence. It also features a husband putting a chastity belt on his wife. And fourth, Bangs feels at ease with Allen, whom she has worked with in “Migrante” and “Burgos.”
One of the most difficult scenes she will have to shoot involves prosthetic that she needs to wear under her clothes, similar to a chastity belt.
Bangs is so proud of her role she admits looking forward to winning another award for “Lauriana.”
She’d rather let her talent than her body do the talking for her. That’s why Bangs turned down several offers she felt will cast her as a sex symbol.
Bangs doesn’t want to be known as a sexy star. ‘Sexy actress’ is a lot better for her. When asked if there is an actress whom she would want to pattern her career after, Bangs Garcia says Claudine Barretto is her peg.
“Sabihin natin parang Claudine Barretto. Si Claudine madami na siyang nagawang sexy roles but she managed to be a very respectable actress.”
